DUE 1st LESSON AFTER EASTER
5.2 The greenhouse effect
5.2.1 Draw and label a diagram of the carbon cycle to show the processes involved.
5.2.2 Analyse the changes in concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide using historical records.
5.2.3 Explain the relationship between rises in concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide, methane and oxides of nitrogen and the enhanced greenhouse effect.
5.2.4 Outline the precautionary principle.
5.2.5 Evaluate the precautionary principle as a justification for strong action in response to the threats posed by the enhanced greenhouse effect.
5.2.6 Outline the consequences of a global temperature rise on arctic ecosystems.
This is our MP: http://www.francismaude.com/
His address is: House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA
He promised to come to visit us to discuss this topic last year - and he did not.
I would like you to write a letter to our MP to express your concern about climate change and invite him back.
I would like you to be intelligent in this letter and to appreciate the compromises that decision makers need to make. You do not need to go into detail in the letter as to the evidence for anthropogenic climate change but make it clear that the evidence is compelling. I would like you to concentrate on 5.2.4 and 5.2.5. In other words, I would like you to emphasise the need for decision makers to take the precautionary principle into account.
Make the point that investment in green energy may help stimulate the economy as well as reduce dependency on oil.
